<p><font size=-1>MPLAB ICD 2 should <b>NOT</b> be plugged into a USB port,
powered, or plugged into a target board at this time.</font>

<font size=-1>If you have already plugged MPLAB ICD 2 into the USB port
and the "Found New Hardware Wizard" has popped up, click <b>Cancel</b>
on that dialog, unplug the MPLAB ICD 2 and continue with these instructions<font face="timesroman"><font color="#000000">.</font></font></font></li>

tool(s) for which you wish to install device drivers under "Tool Device

radio button "Pre-install" under "Action".</font></font></font>

<b>Pre-Install</b>

status log will show you the status of the pre-install. If you have problems,
you may want to save this information to a file so you may refer to it
when you contact customer support. Click the <b>Save Log</b> button at
the end of the pre-install.</font></font></font>

pre-install, a dialog may pop up twice stating, "The software you are installing
for this hardware: <i>Microchip Development Tool</i> has not passed Windows
Logo testing..." In this case, <i>Microchip Development Tool</i> will be:&nbsp;</font></font></font>

planning on using both USB and an external power supply, use only USB when
installing the drivers, i.e., DO NOT plug an external power supply into
the pod for driver installation.</font></font></font></li>

<font size=-1>If you are using an external USB HUB, make sure it has a
power supply and is powered or MPLAB ICD 2 will not work.</font></li>

service pack 2, the first time a new USB device is plugged into a Windows
XP system, this dialog box will appear indicating that the system has found
a new hardware device and asking you whether or not to search for update
software. Select "No, not this time".&nbsp; Click "Next" and continue with
the steps below.</font></font></font></td>

time a new USB device is plugged in, a small dialog box will appear indicating
that the system has found a new hardware device. There also may be a dialog
box that informs the user that a device data base is being built or updated.</font></font></font>
<p><font face="timesroman"><font color="#000000"><font size=-1>After these
dialogs appear, the Found New Hardware Wizard dialog box&nbsp; is displayed.
Select "Install the software automatically (Recommended)" and click "Next"
to continue the installation.</font></font></font><font face="timesroman"><font color="#000000"><font size=-1></font></font></font>
<p><font face="timesroman"><font color="#000000"><font size=-1><b>Note:</b>
If you are running <b>Windows 2000</b>, you may not see this dialog or
the next 3 dialogs. Instead, the system will automatically install the
software without asking you. This is OK. Proceed to Step 10.</font></font></font></td>

"Microchip MPLAB ICD 2 Firmware Loader". Click "Continue Anyway". (See
STEP 3 for a picture of this dialog.)</font></font></font>
<p><font face="timesroman"><font color="#000000"><font size=-1>The "Completing
the Found New Hardware Wizard" will appear once the Microchip MPLAB ICD
2 Firmware Loader has been installed. Click "Finish" to end this installation
and begin the install of the Firmware Client.</font></font></font></td>

dialog appears, the Found New Hardware Wizard dialog box&nbsp; is displayed
again, this time to install the Microchip MPLAB ICD 2 Firmware Client.
Select "Install the software automatically (Recommended)" and click "Next"
to continue the installation.&nbsp;</font></font></font></td>

the driver installed by viewing the Device Manager*, USB Controllers section.</font></font></font>

the Device Manager window, click Start>Settings>Control Panel. In Contorl
Panel, double click System. In System Properties, Hardware tab, click <b>Device
